What has made KangaROOS so unique since 1979? The pocket. The little pocket - whether hidden in the tongue or prominently placed on the side - the pocket is our trademark and the origin of our history.

The pocket: a detail with history and function

What makes a KangaROOS sneaker unmistakable? It's not just the name or the KangaROOS logo. It's the pocket - that small but crucial detail that started it all. In 1979, Bob Gamm, the founder of KangaROOS, had a simple idea during a run: a shoe with an integrated pocket. Practical, light and always to hand. Inspired by an animal known for its speed, agility and, of course, its pouch, he named his invention KangaROOS.

A small detail, a big idea

The first model with the iconic pocket was the ultra-light COMBAT, which was worn by marathon legend Bill Rodgers, who set the American record at the Boston Marathon. Since then, the pocket has been at the heart of every KangaROOS sneaker - a symbol of innovation, performance and suitability for everyday use.

FLAP: The pocket with that certain something

Released in 1981, the FLAP was characterized by its side-mounted pocket flap under the eyestay - a reinterpretation of Bob Gamm's original concept. Its upper material combined airy nylon with high-quality suede overlays. Comfort and retro style quickly made it a cult classic.

Modern classics with tradition

Today, the pocket is presented in its purest form - seamlessly integrated into the tongue of modern silhouettes such as the GAME HI and the GAME HI LACE UP. Both models hark back to the basketball DNA of the early 90s. The GAME HI features an ankle strap and external eyelets for stable support and an unmistakable court feel, while the GAME HI LACE UP offers a cleaner look with environmentally conscious materials such as LWG Gold-certified leather and recycled components. What do they all have in common? This subtle yet functional detail: the secret pocket in the tongue - a tribute to Bob Gamm's invention and a symbol of KangaROOS' DNA.

Timeless design with function

Materials and shapes have evolved, but the idea remains the same: intelligent design with function. A detail that makes all the difference.

Keep it ROOS.
